Would you recommend parquet in a room where heavy furniture will sometimes be moved across the floor?

Applicable for

Farm

Simply moving a piece of furniture will not leave any marks, however dragging it will. Heavy furniture should be lifted with parquet floors, as well as laminate, click vinyl flooring and even many ceramic tiles. And yet you can certainly opt for a parquet floor.

The hardness of oak

With an oak parquet, you are limited to the hardness of oak. This is a fact of nature that there is no getting around. Oak is a relatively hard wood – harder than pine or spruce, for example – but if heavy objects are dropped or dragged on it, it will produce pitting. A strong varnish can compensate for this to some extent, but the floor will also show traces over time (cracks, dullness, etc.)

The finish of your parquet

We would rather recommend an oiled parquet. The floor is then protected against water and dirt by filling the wood pores with oil. Any damage can be dealt with locally.

With a floor finished with varnish, you give your floor a protective layer. Dragging the furniture will scratch the varnish and may allow water to pass through, damaging the floor. To repair any damage to a varnished parquet, the entire floor must always be sanded and re-finished.

The character of your floor

The beauty of parquet is that, over time, the floor develops a personality through traces of use. The floor will start to tell a story and have a unique look. Visually, you can also accommodate this by choosing a very rustic collection (e.g. Farm or Chalet). These collections naturally have more knots, cracks and greater colour variations so stripes are less noticeable.

Your character

In the end, your own personality and how you handle the floor also plays a big role. Some people are very meticulous and want to keep the parquet looking sleek, while others are a bit more casual and just like that extra patina.
